Signs You May Need a New Control Board
The control board is the "brain" of your furnace or air handler. It manages the startup sequence, monitors safety switches, and controls blower speeds.
🔴Flashing Error Codes or No LED Activity▼
The diagnostic LED is blinking an unfamiliar pattern or not lighting at all.
Continuous rapid blinking or no blink indicates board failure.
Check the code chart on your furnace door panel to decode the pattern.
🔄System Behaves Erratically▼
The blower runs at the wrong speed or won't shut off.
Components turn on in the wrong sequence.
Random shutdowns or failure to complete the startup sequence.
🔥Visible Burn Marks or Damaged Components▼
Blackened areas, melted connectors, or charred components on the board.
Blown fuses on the board that keep failing after replacement.
A burnt smell coming from the furnace cabinet.
Power surges and lightning strikes are common causes of board failure in Dallas. A surge protector can prevent future damage.
⚡Furnace or AC Doesn't Respond to Thermostat▼
The thermostat calls for heating or cooling but nothing happens.
The thermostat display is working but the system won't start.
After ruling out the thermostat itself, the control board is the next suspect.
