Furnace Control Board Cross-Reference

Two things to know before you read any further
1. Most control boards have no universal replacement. Not “we don’t stock one” — none exists. Boards are the least interchangeable part in a furnace. The list further down covers 605 OEM numbers that do have a verified universal, and that is a small fraction of the boards in the field. If yours is not on it, the honest answer is the OEM part.
2. Most boards that get replaced were not the problem. The board is downstream of every safety in the furnace, so it takes the blame for faults belonging to the flame sensor, the pressure switch, the limit, the ignitor, the grounding, or a chafed thermostat wire. Goodman puts it in their own service manual: the control board should only be replaced after all other checks from the troubleshooting chart have been verified.
A control board is one of the most expensive parts in the furnace. It is worth thirty minutes of checking before you spend that.

Prove it is the board first
Run the furnace and watch the sequence. Note the first step that does not happen, then prove the input to that step. The board is only guilty when every input is good and its output is missing.

Flash codes — and why the count means nothing on its own
There is no cross-brand standard for flash codes. The same number of blinks means different things on different equipment. Here are two of the most common brands side by side:

Look at rows 6, 7 and 8. Three codes, and all three mean something different depending on whose furnace you are standing in front of. This is why “my furnace is flashing seven times, what part do I need” has no answer without knowing the brand.
And that is only one of four schemes in the field. Lennox SureLight boards use two LEDs in red and green patterns. Resideo universals use three. Newer boards — including the Trane A801X and the current White-Rodgers universals — have dropped blinking entirely for a seven-segment alphanumeric display with codes like E1.4.
Where to find your legend
Printed on the label inside the blower compartment door of your own furnace. That label, not a chart on the internet, is the one that applies to your equipment.
Universal boards that actually exist
Four manufacturers make genuine aftermarket furnace controls. Two names you will see on other parts — Supco and Packard — do not make one at all. DiversiTech resells ICM rather than building their own.

If your OEM number is not here, we could not find a published universal for it, and the honest answer is the OEM board.

Defrost boards are a separate animal from furnace controls, and they have their own most-common misdiagnosis: the sensor, not the board. A sensor-based defrost control relies on a coil thermistor and often an ambient thermistor. A unit that will not defrost, or defrosts constantly, is very often a failed sensor at a fraction of the price.

ICM301, ICM320 and ICM321 are flagged legacy or obsolete by ICM, and ICM320 has no suggested alternative. Check current availability before promising one to a customer.
Why boards mostly do not interchange
Two boards can look identical, do the same job, and still be incompatible. The reasons are real, not marketing:
- Connector pinout. White-Rodgers state outright that their 50M56U-843 will not replace a board with an 11-pin bar connector. That is a universal board’s own maker naming boards it cannot fit.
- Safety timings. Pre-purge, ignitor warm-up, trial for ignition, retries, blower on and off delays. These differ between boards that look the same, and they are safety settings, not preferences.
- Ignitor voltage. 80 V nitride versus 120 V is a hard incompatibility. Put a 120 V board on an 80 V ignitor and you destroy the ignitor.
- Integrated versus non-integrated. Some controls handle ignition only, with fan control living elsewhere. Different architecture entirely.
- Stage count. Single, two-stage and modulating boards have different outputs and different logic. A single-stage board has no second-stage output at all.
- Blower motor type. A PSC board switches line voltage to speed taps. An ECM board sends low-voltage tap-select signals. Not interchangeable.
- Communicating systems. Carrier Infinity, Trane ComfortLink II and Lennox iComfort are serial bus systems where the board, outdoor unit and thermostat negotiate with each other. No universal replacement exists for any of them — not from ICM, not from White-Rodgers, not from Resideo.
- Brand-specific flame sensing. ICM notes some Rheem and Ruud models sense flame differently, and certain older Rheem units need an added flame sensor kit.
Fit a board that merely looks right and the good outcome is that it does not run. The bad outcomes are the ones the board exists to prevent: a gas valve energised without proving flame, a blower on the wrong speed for a heat call, or safeties that are not in the circuit at all.
The boards people ask us for by number
These are the ones that come up most, answered straight — including the ones where the answer is “there is no universal.”
19W94 — Lennox
An ignition control board kit for 80MGF and G24M series furnaces. It supersedes 33J62, 65K07 and LB-84495A/B, and the allied-brand equivalent is 20J80. No universal replacement exists — we checked it against every published cross-reference from ICM, White-Rodgers and Resideo and it appears in none of them. At least one distributor reports Lennox no longer supplies it, so this is an OEM-or-nothing part and worth checking availability before you pull the old one.
PCBBF145S — Goodman
Confirmed from Goodman’s own service manual for the GMES9 and GCES9 series. Its distinguishing feature is a TWIN terminal — Goodman requires twinned furnaces to be the same model with PCBBF145 boards. No universal replacement. The published universals cover PCBBF136 and PCBBF140 and stop there.
Ameristar control boards
Ameristar is Trane’s value brand, alongside Oxbox and RunTru, so it uses Trane-family part numbers. There is no single “Ameristar board.” Outdoor units commonly use BRD-series boards; gas furnaces use a Trane integrated control. Note that the A801X generation moved to a seven-segment display with E-codes rather than flash counts, so troubleshooting guides written for older Trane boards will not match what you are looking at.
Lennox G40UH — there are four different boards
Lennox’s own service literature names two generations for this furnace: 10M93 and 56L84, then 78M47 and 100973-01. They are not the same — the ignitor stays energised for a different portion of the trial for ignition on each, and the undervoltage cut-out differs too.
56L84 and 10M93 do have universal coverage (ICM2813, ICM2812-KIT, White-Rodgers 50M56U-843 and 21D83M-843). 78M47 and 100973-01 do not appear in any published cross-reference. Read the number off your board, not off the furnace model.
CNT09648 and CNT05482 — Trane
These come up constantly on contactor searches, so to be clear: CNT is Trane’s prefix for control boards. Trane contactors start with CTR.
CNT09648 is an integrated furnace control and the current replacement for the discontinued CNT07940. CNT05482 is a heat pump defrost board, also written CNT5482, and it is sensor-based — before condemning it, check the coil and ambient sensors. Neither has a verified universal equivalent, and note that although some older Trane numbers appear in the ICM2812-KIT list, CNT09648 itself does not. We stock both.
Reading the number on your board
No manufacturer publishes a decoder for control board part numbers. What follows are patterns we and others have observed, useful for orienting yourself — not official.

Handling a new board
Control boards are static sensitive, and static damage is usually latent — the board works, then fails weeks later, and everybody blames the part. Goodman publishes a four-step procedure and it is worth following:
Do not set a board on carpet or a vehicle seat. Keep it in the antistatic bag until the moment it goes in.
Frequently Asked Questions
My furnace is flashing a code. What part do I need?
There is no answer to that without knowing the brand. Flash codes are not standardised — six flashes means reversed polarity on a Trane and an open rollout or blown fuse on a Goodman. Read the legend on the label inside your blower door.
Can I put any board in that has the same terminals?
No. Two boards with matching terminals can still differ in safety timings, ignitor voltage, blower type and connector pinout. White-Rodgers name specific boards their own universal will not replace despite identical function.
Is there a universal board for my communicating system?
No. Carrier Infinity, Trane ComfortLink II and Lennox iComfort are serial bus systems where the components negotiate with each other. No aftermarket manufacturer makes a replacement for any of them — it has to be the OEM board.
The universal is cheaper than the OEM board. Any catch?
The catch is configuration. A universal is a board plus the correct harness plus the correct timing settings, and on a Resideo those settings are the safety timings set by DIP switch. Done properly it is a good part. Fitted without the configuration it is a liability.
My heat pump will not defrost. Is the board bad?
Often not. Sensor-based defrost controls depend on a coil thermistor and usually an ambient one. Test the sensors before the board — they are a fraction of the cost.
I replaced the board and it blew the fuse again.
Then the fault was never the board. A fuse that blows repeatedly is a low-voltage short — a chafed thermostat wire, a pinched wire at the condenser, or a shorted contactor or reversing valve coil.
