R32-20 – REFRIGERANT (20LB) – MAKE SURE TO OFFER AN A2L TANK ADAPTOR – NO RETURNS
Check the nameplate before you buy gas, and check your tools before you crack the cylinder. R-454B and R-32 are A2Ls, mildly flammable, so they need A2L rated hoses and manifold, a non-sparking recovery machine and pump, and a left-hand thread adapter to reach the tank. Your R-410A kit does not simply carry over, and no, R-454B is not a top-off for an R-410A system. Bring your EPA 608 card for refrigerant. Nitrogen we will fill or exchange for anyone.

R-32 refrigerant in a 20 lb cylinder. R-32 is a lower-GWP A2L refrigerant used in newer equipment – EPA Section 608 certification and A2L-rated handling practices apply, and an A2L tank adaptor is needed to connect standard gauges. Specifications below come from our own stock records; confirm against the part before installing.

What refrigerant does my system take, and can I just top it off?
Read the nameplate, do not guess. New residential equipment, including the Rheem Endeavor condensers we stock, is R-454B, an A2L. R-410A equipment is legacy now but still all over DFW. R-22 has been out of production for years, so anything still on it runs on reclaimed gas at reclaimed prices. There is no drop-in between any of them. You cannot top an R-410A system with R-454B or the other way around.
What actually changes with A2Ls like R-454B and R-32?
They are mildly flammable, so the tool list changes. You want A2L rated hoses and manifold, a non-sparking recovery machine and vacuum pump, a sealed electronic leak detector, and dedicated A2L recovery cylinders. A2L cylinders also use a left-hand thread service connection, so a left-hand adapter is required to get a standard hose on the tank.
Liquid or vapor charging?
R-454B is a blend, so it goes in as liquid, metered into the low side through a restrictor. Charging a blend as vapor fractionates it and leaves the wrong mixture in the system. Most of these cylinders have a dip tube, meaning liquid comes out with the tank upright, but read the label before you flip anything.
Do you sell refrigerant to homeowners?
That one is federal, not store policy. HFCs and A2Ls both require EPA 608 certification to buy, so bring your card. Nitrogen is different - we sell and exchange nitrogen, acetylene and oxygen cylinders for anybody.
