Thermostat wire connects your thermostat to the furnace, air handler, and outdoor unit. 18/5 (18-gauge, 5-conductor) is the standard for most single-stage heating and cooling systems with 5 wires: R, G, Y, W, and C. If you’re running new wire for a thermostat upgrade or replacing damaged wire, this 250-foot roll covers most residential jobs.
