Symptoms of failure
- No response at all when the thermostat calls
- Board LED flashes a fault code, or shows nothing
- Blower or inducer runs constantly and will not stop
- Visible scorch marks, a blown fuse or a bulged capacitor on the board
- Furnace works intermittently with no pattern
- Relays on the board click but nothing downstream energizes
Seeing these does not always mean this part is the culprit. Bring the old one in and we will meter it at the counter, free, before you buy.

Installing it yourself
- Power off at the furnace switch and confirm 0V.
- Photograph EVERY connector before you unplug anything. This is the step people skip and regret.
- Check the obvious first - a blown 3A fuse, a tripped rollout, a bad ground. Most boards that get replaced were not the problem.
- Unplug connectors one at a time and move them to the new board as you go.
- If you are fitting a universal board, the harness and the DIP switch settings are part of the job - those switches set the safety timings.
- Match the flash-code chart on the new board's label, not the old one. Codes are not standardised between brands.
- Restore power and watch a full heat cycle end to end before closing up.
- We do not run full diagnostics on boards at the counter, but bring the furnace model and the flash code and we will help you work out whether the board is really the failure.

How do I know the board is actually bad?
Most boards that get replaced were not the problem. Check the cheap things first: the 3 amp fuse on the board, a tripped rollout or limit, a plugged condensate switch, a bad ground, and low incoming voltage. Goodman's own manual says the board should only be replaced after everything else on the troubleshooting chart has been verified.
What does the flash code mean?
Read it off the label on YOUR board, not off a chart you found online. Flash codes are not standardised between manufacturers - six flashes means reversed polarity or a poor ground on a Trane and an open rollout or blown fuse on a Goodman, and 7 and 8 are swapped between them as well.
Is there a universal replacement?
Sometimes, and often not. Real universal furnace boards come from only a few makers - ICM, White-Rodgers/Copeland and Resideo. If your number is not on their published list, the honest answer is the OEM board. We will not invent a cross for a control board.
If I fit a universal, is it just the board?
No. A universal ships with a set of harnesses and you have to pick the right one for your OEM number, and the DIP switches set the safety timings. Fitting the board without configuring it leaves the furnace running its safeties on the wrong clock.
Do you test boards at the counter?
Not fully. We will not run a complete diagnostic on communicating equipment or mimic a whole gas furnace ignition cycle - anyone who tells you they can is guessing. Bring the furnace model and the flash code and we will help you work out whether the board is really the failure.
