Before replacing the gas valve, rule out the ignitor, flame sensor, and pressure switch first. The gas valve is rarely the problem — test the cheaper parts first.

Description
If your furnace won’t ignite and you’ve ruled out the ignitor and flame sensor, the gas valve may need replacement. This is the OEM Trane/American Standard version of a common slow-opening single-stage valve.
