Take three measurements before you buy a cased coil - cabinet width, depth of the plenum opening, and which way the drain stubs need to face in the position it will actually sit. A coil that is the right tonnage and the wrong width is still the wrong coil, and nobody wants to build a sheet metal transition in an attic in August. Bring the condenser model number too, so we can confirm the pairing is an AHRI listed match rather than a guess.

Rheem Endeavor Line RCFY cased indoor coil rated by Rheem at 60,000 BTU/H nominal on R-454B with a factory-installed TXV. It is an A-Coil in a 21″ wide cased cabinet, 34 1/2″ tall and 21 11/16″ deep, weighing 76 lb, with 3/8″ liquid and 7/8″ vapor copper sweat connections. How do I match a coil to my condenser?
Tonnage and refrigerant first, then the cabinet. An R-454B condenser needs an R-454B rated coil like the RCFY, with the metering device and circuiting sized for it. Cased width then has to fit what it sits on - 17-1/2, 21 or 24-1/2 inches on most furnaces and air handlers. Going one nominal size up is legitimate for airflow, but only if that pairing is an AHRI listed combination.
Does the coil come with the TXV?
The RCFY ships with the expansion valve factory installed and bi-directional, so nothing internal changes going horizontal left to right. Plenty of aftermarket coils ship bare or with a fixed piston, so ask first. A condenser expecting a TXV and finding an orifice will not hold superheat near spec.
Does one coil work upflow, downflow and horizontal?
Multi-position coils like the RCFY handle all four, but the drain side changes. There are two sets of 3/4 inch NPT connections, primary and secondary, and horizontal in an attic you connect both and set an overflow pan under it. In a 140F Dallas attic a plugged primary with nothing behind it puts water through the ceiling, and that repair costs more than the coil.
My coil leaked at nine years. Did somebody abuse it?
Almost never. What we see in DFW is formicary corrosion - microscopic ant-nest tunnels eating from outside the copper inward, driven by formic and acetic acid off latex paint, plywood and engineered flooring, cabinetry, sheet vinyl, cleaners and aerosols, plus condensate and oxygen. Research puts it on the home environment, not the coil builder, and the leaks land in the fin pack where nobody can reach them. One reason newer coils use aluminum tube, not copper.
