Pro tip

Hot surface ignitors are fragile — never touch the silicon carbide element with your bare fingers. Skin oils cause hot-spot failures later. Hold the new one by the bracket only. And if you've been turning the furnace on and off trying to diagnose, you've shortened the new one's life every cycle.

Symptoms of failure

  • Furnace clicks and the inducer runs but the burners never light
  • Ignitor glows dim orange instead of bright white
  • Ignitor does not glow at all
  • Furnace tries three times then locks out
  • Visible crack or chip in the ignitor element
  • Intermittent - lights fine some mornings, not others

Seeing these does not always mean this part is the culprit. Bring the old one in and we will meter it at the counter, free, before you buy.

If your furnace won’t light or only clicks without igniting, the hot surface ignitor is usually the fix. This universal 80V ignitor works across most major furnace brands and includes multiple mounting brackets and spacers so it adapts to different furnace configurations.

Replaces: Multiple OEM ignitor part numbers across Goodman, Trane, Rheem, Carrier, Lennox, York, and others. Bring your old part in and we’ll match it.

Fits: Most 80V gas furnaces from Goodman, Amana, Trane, American Standard, Rheem, Ruud, Carrier, Bryant, Lennox, York, and others.

Installing it yourself

Difficulty 2/5Typical time 20-30 minutes

  1. Power off at the furnace switch and confirm 0V. Let the ignitor cool - it runs well over 1,800F.
  2. Never touch the element with bare fingers. Skin oil creates a hot spot and shortens its life.
  3. Photograph the bracket position and the plug routing.
  4. Remove the mounting screw and unplug the connector.
  5. Match the VOLTAGE, not just the shape. 80V, 95V and 120V ignitors look similar and are not interchangeable.
  6. Fit the new ignitor at the same depth and angle in the burner flame path.
  7. Restore power and watch a full cycle before you close the door.
  8. Bring the old one in - we will confirm the voltage family before you buy.

Power off at the disconnect first, every time. Not sure partway through? Bring it to the counter and we will walk it with you.
