FG2424 – FILTER GRILLE (24″ x 24″)

A filter grille mounts over your return air opening and holds a standard 1″ filter right at the grille. The hinged face swings open so you can swap the filter without removing the grille — no screws, no hassle. If your current grille is damaged, rusted, or you want to add filtration to a return that doesn’t have it, this is the part.

What size return grille or register do I need?

Grilles and registers are sold by the DUCT OPENING they cover, not by the outside dimension of the faceplate. Measure the hole in the wall, ceiling or floor - the faceplate will overlap it by roughly an inch on each side.

Which number comes first, width or height?

Width first, then height. A 20 x 30 return grille is 20 inches wide and 30 inches tall. Getting them backwards is the most common reason a grille comes back.

Return grille or supply register - what is the difference?

A return grille pulls air back to the system and is usually large, fixed and often takes a filter. A supply register pushes conditioned air into the room and has adjustable louvers and a damper so you can aim and throttle it.

Can I close off a register in a room I do not use?

A couple of them, briefly, is usually survivable. Closing several raises static pressure across the whole system, which can freeze a coil, crack a heat exchanger over time, or push a blower out of its range. If a room is always too hot or too cold the answer is almost never the register.

My return grille is too small. Does that matter?

Yes. Undersized return is one of the most common causes of poor airflow, noisy vents and short equipment life in Dallas houses. If the grille whistles or the filter sucks flat against it, the return is undersized.
