A filter plenum is a sheet metal box that connects to your furnace, air handler, or cased coil and gives you a spot to install a return air filter. This version has the filter access door on the 20″ side — make sure to measure your installation so the door faces an accessible direction. Accepts up to a 4″ media filter and is internally insulated with R-6 liner.

What is a filter plenum?
A return plenum with a filter slot and an access door built into it, so the filter sits right at the equipment instead of out at a grille.
Which side is the door on?
It is called out in the listing - door on the 25 inch side, or on the 20 inch side. Pick the one that opens toward where you can actually reach it. This is the detail people get wrong and then cannot change the filter.
What size filter goes in it?
The filter matches the plenum face it sits behind. Measure the slot, and check the depth - a 4 inch media filter needs a slot built for it.
Why put the filter at the equipment instead of the return grille?
It keeps the return duct clean as well as the coil, and it is one filter instead of several. The trade-off is that you have to get to the equipment to change it, which in an attic in August is worth thinking about.
