768A-842 – HOT SURFACE IGNITOR (80V, AMANA, 11111701S)
HSIs are fragile — never touch the silicon carbide element with your bare fingers. Skin oils cause hot-spot failures down the line. Hold the new one by the bracket only. And if you've been turning the furnace on and off trying to diagnose, you've shortened the new one's life every cycle.

If your furnace won’t light or only clicks without igniting, the hot surface ignitor is usually the fix. This 80V silicon nitride ignitor is a direct replacement for Amana furnaces using part 11111701S. Make sure your furnace uses an 80V ignitor — not 120V — before purchasing.
Replaces: 11111701S, 768A-842, 768A-2
Fits: Amana gas furnaces using 80V ignitor 11111701S.

Fits these models
- Amana 80% AFUE gas furnaces, GUD / GMS / GME series (~1990s-2010s)
- Goodman GMS80, GMS8 80% AFUE series (same Amana/Goodman family)
- Most Amana / Goodman 80% AFUE single-stage gas furnaces from that era
- Verify your existing ignitor is 80V — some Amana use 120V HSI instead (different part)
How do I test a hot surface ignitor?
Pull it out, check resistance with a multimeter across the leads. 80V HSIs read roughly 40-90 ohms when healthy. Open circuit = dead. Bring it to the counter — we test these free.
80V vs 120V — what do I have?
The voltage is printed on the data plate inside the furnace and often on the control board. Or look at the existing ignitor — 80V Amana use a specific 2-pin Amana plug; 120V universals usually have a different connector.
How many cycles will an HSI last?
3-7 years typical. Short-cycling — caused by a dirty filter, an oversized furnace, or a dirty flame sensor — burns through HSIs fast. Address the underlying cause when you replace.
