The hot surface ignitor (HSI) is the glowing element that lights the gas in your furnace. They're fragile and wear out over time — cracking from thermal stress or burning out after years of use.
Ignitors are fragile ceramic. Never touch the element with bare fingers — oils from your skin can cause premature failure.
