Before replacing the gas valve, rule out the ignitor, flame sensor, and pressure switch first. The gas valve is rarely the problem — test the cheaper parts first.

Description
If your furnace won’t ignite and you’ve ruled out the pilot light and thermocouple, the gas valve may need replacement. This standard-opening standing pilot valve is used on older furnaces with a continuously lit pilot flame.
