If your furnace is short-cycling, check the filter first — a clogged filter causes the limit switch to trip. If the filter is clean, then the switch itself may be failing.

Description
If your furnace is short-cycling (turning on and off repeatedly), a failed pressure switch may be the cause. This is a dual pressure switch with two setpoints (-0.17″ and -0.50″ WC) for two-stage Trane and American Standard furnaces where the inducer runs at two different speeds.
