Answers to the Questions We Hear Every Day
Whether you’re walking in for the first time or calling to check on a part, here are the answers to what customers ask us most.
Visiting the Store
Do I need an appointment to come in?
No appointment needed. Just walk in during business hours — Monday through Friday 10 AM to 7 PM, Saturday 10 AM to 3 PM. Our counter staff will help you right away.
Where is Open To Public HVAC Parts located?
We’re at 10226 Plano Rd, Suite 104, Dallas, TX 75238 — right off Highway 75 near the Plano Rd exit. Look for our sign on the strip center. Free parking right out front.
Can I call ahead to check if a part is in stock?
Absolutely. Call or text us at (214) 340-9421 and we’ll check stock for you. If you have the part number or your unit’s model number, that helps us find it faster.
Do you sell parts online or ship orders?
No — we’re an in-store only business. Our online catalog is for browsing and reference so you can see what we carry, but all purchases happen at the counter. This lets us test parts, match replacements, and make sure you’re getting the right one before you leave.
Do you offer contractor or wholesale pricing?
Yes. We have a contractor account program with two-tier pricing. Sign up through the Contractor Information Form on our website or ask at the counter. Contractor pricing applies to licensed HVAC techs, remodel contractors, and property managers buying in volume.
Parts & Testing
Will you test my old part to see if it’s bad?
Yes — free bench testing at the counter, no purchase required. We can test capacitors, motors, contactors, relays, ignitors, control boards, transformers, pressure switches, gas valves, and inducer motors. Bring in the part and we’ll tell you in minutes whether it’s the problem.
How do I know which replacement part I need?
Bring in your old part or your unit’s model number. We’ll match the replacement right at the counter. If you’re not sure what’s wrong, describe the symptoms — we troubleshoot over the counter and over the phone every day.
Do you carry OEM parts or just aftermarket?
Both. We stock original manufacturer parts from Rheem, Trane, Carrier, Goodman, Lennox, and others, plus high-quality aftermarket and universal replacements. We’ll help you decide which option makes sense for your system and budget.
What brands do you carry?
We carry parts for all major HVAC brands: Rheem, Ruud, Trane, American Standard, Carrier, Bryant, Payne, Goodman, Amana, Daikin, Lennox, York, Coleman, Heil, Tempstar, and many more. We also stock universal parts that fit multiple brands.
How many parts do you keep in stock?
Over 27,000 items across 1,500+ SKUs — far more than what’s listed on our website. If it’s a common AC or furnace part, we almost certainly have it on the shelf. For less common items, we can usually get them within a day or two. Stop by or call to ask about specific parts.
Do your parts come with a warranty?
Yes. Our parts come with manufacturer warranties. Specific coverage varies by brand and part type — ask at the counter and we’ll give you the details for whatever you’re buying.
DIY Repair Help
Can you help me figure out what’s wrong with my AC or furnace?
That’s what we do best. Describe what’s happening — no cool air, strange noises, unit won’t start — and we’ll walk you through the most likely causes and which parts to check. We do this at the counter and over the phone at (214) 340-9421.
I’ve never done an HVAC repair before. Is it hard?
Most common repairs are easier than people expect. Replacing a capacitor or contactor takes 5 to 15 minutes with basic tools. A condenser fan motor is 30 to 90 minutes. We’ll walk you through the process, show you which wires go where, and even pull up wiring diagrams if needed.
Do you have video tutorials for common repairs?
Yes. We have free video tutorials on our website covering capacitor replacement, motor swaps, ignitor replacement, thermostat wiring, and more. Visit our Video Tutorials page or find us on YouTube at Open To Public HVAC School.
How much can I save by doing the repair myself?
Hundreds of dollars on most repairs. For example, replacing a capacitor yourself costs $10 to $30 for the part — a service call would run $200 to $500. A condenser fan motor is $130 to $180 DIY versus $500 to $1,200 with a pro. See our full DIY vs Pro cost comparison.
What tools do I need for a basic AC repair?
For most repairs you just need a multimeter, a screwdriver set (Phillips and flathead), and a 5/16″ or 1/4″ nut driver. We sell all of these at the store, including Fieldpiece multimeters and professional-grade tools if you want to upgrade.
Pricing & Payment
Are your prices listed on the website?
Yes — most parts have prices listed in our online catalog. Prices are the same in-store as shown online. Some specialty items may need a quote, which we can give you at the counter or over the phone.
What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash, all major credit and debit cards, and checks. Whatever’s easiest for you.
Are your parts cheaper than calling an HVAC company?
Significantly. An HVAC service call alone (before parts) typically runs $75 to $150. On top of that, pros mark up parts 2 to 5 times. Buying the part from us and doing it yourself saves $200 to $1,000+ depending on the repair. We have a full price comparison breakdown on our website.
Equipment & Specialty
Do you sell full AC units or furnaces?
Yes — we’re an authorized Rheem and Ruud dealer. We sell condensers, air handlers, furnaces, and package units. Equipment pricing is available at the counter or by calling (214) 340-9421. Note: we sell the equipment but don’t do installation.
Do you sell refrigerant?
Yes, we carry R-410A, R-22, and other common refrigerants. We also sell nitrogen, acetylene, and oxygen for brazing — including tank exchanges.
Do you carry mini-split parts?
We carry mini-split install supplies and equipment — line sets, condensate pumps, wall brackets, and complete units. We don’t stock mini-split repair parts, but our team can help point you in the right direction.
About Open To Public HVAC Parts
How long have you been in business?
Since 1998. Danny Sides started the business out of his garage, and it’s been at our current Dallas location ever since. Matt Sides (Danny’s son) runs the store now. We’re a family business with nearly three decades of HVAC parts experience.
Are you open to the general public or contractors only?
Everyone is welcome. That’s literally our name — Open To Public HVAC Parts. We serve homeowners doing DIY repairs, contractors, property managers, landlords, handymen, and anyone else who needs an HVAC part. No license required to shop here.
What makes you different from buying parts at Home Depot or online?
Three things: expertise, testing, and accuracy. We test your old part for free to confirm it’s actually the problem. We match the exact replacement using your model number. And we walk you through the install so you don’t make a mistake. Home Depot and Amazon can’t do any of that. That means fewer return trips and no guessing.
